EN 50600 is the European standard series for information technology — data centre facilities and infrastructures — developed by CENELEC (IEC counterpart). The series covers concepts (EN 50600-1), building construction (50600-2-1), power distribution (50600-2-2), environmental control (50600-2-3), telecommunications cabling (50600-2-4), security systems (50600-2-5), energy efficiency (50600-2-6), and management and operation (50600-3). It uses four Protection Classes (1–4) equivalent to Tier I–IV availability levels.
For Indian data centre operators targeting European enterprise clients, cloud providers, or EU government data hosting, EN 50600 compliance demonstrates design alignment with European regulatory expectations — including the EU Green Deal efficiency requirements and the European Green Digital Coalition commitments. EN 50600-2-6 is particularly relevant as it defines PUE, WUE (Water Usage Effectiveness), and REF (Renewable Energy Factor) metrics now referenced in EU data centre sustainability reporting.
